You've got an American company that's producing exactly what you need to help contain things... and you're totally ignoring it?
John Lapoint of Packgen in Auburn, Maine, says he’s got plenty of floating oil containment boom and can make lots more on short notice. There’s just one problem: no one will buy it from him.
He’s already had a representative from BP visit his factory and inspect his product. The governor of Maine, John Baldacci, visited the facility and made a video plea to no one in particular to close the deal. Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins wrote a letter on May 21 to the secretary of the Interior, the administrator of NOAA, and the commandant of the Coast Guard to alert them to the existence of Packgen, their supply of boom, and their demonstrated capacity to make more. I have no idea if those are the correct persons and agencies to notify about the manufacturing capacity and the availability of boom. One wonders if the senators know.
We're going on 3 weeks now, when Governor Jindal put out the request for more boom... and he's gotten.... well, i know he's not gotten enough (as the repeated pictures of the Louisiana wetlands have shown).
He's gotten what.. one visit from a BP individual... but it's the federal govt that should be responsible for the protection of the coasts (Remember, Obama said that BP was taking orders from "him".)
The NOAA (I believe) is responsible for the cleanup.. so why aren't they jumping at this opportunity? I'll give you a hint... "Crisis management". Obama's administration doesn't want it managed. He wants to "kick ass" and perform legal "mumbo-jumbo", so he can continue to poiint fingers and blame.
Heck, right now Jindal should be talking to this guy and ordering this stuff as fast as he can make it. (Remember, Jindal was the one that said he'd take any actions necessary. If Governor Jindal knows about this company and he continues to whine about not getting the equipment and help he needs, then the "former" Golden Boy will have no one to blame but himself (and loses some of his luster in the process).
