Okay, I usually don't have a beef with RWN...

But this latest "just surrender in Massachusetts" post has me wondering.. just what candidate does John think is worth fighting for?

First let me say that John was one of my first, and one of my REGULAR stops for conservative viewpoints.   But I truly dont get his thinking in this congressional battle.

Now, if someone can produce a poll showing that Brown has a chance, I'm all for jumping in with both feet, but at the moment, I'm not convinced he can win.

I'm guessing I understand the general principle of fighting only battles that you think you  can win.. but honestly, John, are your trumpeting the Conservative viewpoint or the Republican viewpoint.

Apparently, John's general belief is that he's afraid that conservatives will throw money into a campaign that is destined for failure because and I use his quote..

"This late in the game, this race HAS BEEN polled internally either by the GOP or the Brown campaign and the fact that they're not trumpeting those numbers tells me he's WAY BEHIND. If Brown were even within 10 points, we'd know all about it at this point"

So because Brown hasn't been trumpeting his numbers, he's way behind?

So explain to me John, why Coakley hasn't been trumpeting their own internal numbers then?  You'd think if Brown was that far behind, Coakley's campaign would be running rampant with the numbers all over the Massachusetts media?

You say that you're not accepting "ancedotal evidence and unscientific polling", but you're using unscientific "silence" as reason to say that Brown is "way behind"?   Am I seein ga contradiction in beliefs here?

John suggested that Conservatives forget about NY-23 at one point, because it was a losing battle.  (yes, the conservatives lost, but only after Scozzy threw all her supporter and voters behind the Democrats in the race.)

I though the conservative ideal was to fight for our beliefs, regardless of what the general battlefield looks like?    What happens if conservatives do support Brown and makes serious headway (much like the headway that WAS made in the NY-23 battle? )

What happens if the polls in Florida go back in Crist's favor?  Should Rubio just give up that fight as well?  I mean you said to give up on NY-23.  Now you're saying to give up on Massachusetts...

John, you've always been one of my favorite conservative bloggers.. but I honestly have to stick with the naming of that post an official "Brain Fart" posting.

I was even going to quote JFK (admittedly an unabashed Democrat) until one of the commentors on that post came a better quotation.

"Still, if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves". - Winston Churchill
I don't think anyone could have said it better.
