I'm having a REALLY good week.

1st , Massachusetts elects a Republican senator
2nd.. the Saints are one game away from the Super Bowl
3rd...   Air America gives up the ghost

The left-wing radio network that launched the careers of Sen. Al Franken and MSNBC political commentator Rachel Maddow announced today that it will be going under.

As in closed. Off-the-air. Silent. Dead.

AA almost made it to age 6.

Its live programming will cease this afternoon, and the company plans to file for bankruptcy "to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business," wrote Air America Chairman Charlie Kireker in a statement to employees.

Of course, this is why I "love" to laugh at the LA times.

The New York-based Air America kicked off in March 2004, aiming to be the antithesis of Rush Limbaugh's and Sean Hannity's shows. In comparison to the staunch, multimillion followings of those commentators, Air America didn't quite hit the mark or even come close. An insufficient number of people tuned in.
First.. it's Followings (Hey, it's LA times.. You didn't think they'd let a "cult" type comment slip by?) for the Conservative radio hosts listeners, while it's "Insufficient people" for liberal radio... aww, you're not going to give us numbers?

But what was even funnier was the quote the NYT used:

The headwinds were enormous, he [Sam Seder] said, adding, “Radio is a dying industry.

Oh really?   Dying?   Multimillion :":followings" is dying?

Me thinks they doth overestimate how important they were...
Through some 100 radio outlets nationwide, Air America helped build a new sense of purpose and determination among American progressives. With this revival, the progressive movement made major gains in the 2006 mid-term elections and, more recently, in the election of President Barack Obama and a strongly Democratic Congress.

100 outlets?   Really, that powerful!   Then how could you have failed, considering this was considered the "most voted in" presidential election.
