Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) wanted to fly 10 lawmakers down to the Gulf of Mexico to see the damage caused by BP’s gigantic oil spill first hand.
House Democrats said no.
Scalise’s trip was rejected for a variety of bureaucratic and logistical reasons, but it has also opened a new vein of partisan squabbling over who should be allowed to arrange a trip to view the impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Hell, James Cameron's down there ... get him to take some video shots for everyone to see if it's so important to see it? Gather up all the dead animals and drop them on the White House Lawn if it's that damn important.
This is one of those times when Republicans don't need to whine about what they're being blocked from doing... if you want to go see the disaster area, go on your own dime and your own staff.
Don't get me wrong... I'd love for them to have Congressmen actually see the disaster of the spill and the Obama-lack-of-response first hand.. but is it something that is truly necessary to argue about?
